One Thing I Forgot During Pregnancy

I was recently approached by a paediatric occupational therapist about a course she runs and wanted to offer to my gorgeous tribe for free!

When I read about what it entailed, it really struck a chord with me.

When I was pregnant, I was totally and utterly focused on my pregnancy and the birth.

Every single book I read, I literally stopped reading once the baby had been born. I just felt like I wasn’t ready for that information then, or that I would deal with the baby stuff once the baby actually arrived.

Cue then baby arriving, intense sleep deprivation and the anxiety of looking after a newborn which I’d never done before – it was the hardest time of my life.

My husband and I both struggled deeply after our son was born. Everyone told me I would learn what his different cries meant but  I just couldn’t comprehend how.

Each day was a steep, new learning curve about tired signs, hunger cues and over stimulation meltdowns.

When I read about Dr Nisha’s first of three workshops, ‘Baby Ready’ where you learn how to interpret your newborns actions, postures & gestures, minimise stress during activities (like bathing) and provide comfort during discomfort (during immunisations), I WISHED I had done something like this before Mason.

As mentioned, this first workshop is free and I would highly recommend checking out Dr Nisha’s website and registering for the event. She has an impressive resume and really knows her stuff!

The next one is on Thursday 29th June at East Melbourne Library from 7 to 9pm.

Hi I'm Michelle. I am a second-generation birth passioneer, a protector and supporter of birthing parents and birth workers alike. Among so many things, I am a HypnoBirthing Educator, doula, advocate and disruptor of the birthing status quo. I also laugh too hard at my own jokes, I swear and often over-share! Since attending my first birth in 2016, I fell head over heels in love with all things birth and was determined to make this my life’s calling. Connecting women to their purpose, to their children, to their ability to birth, to run businesses, to be happy…this is my reason for being on this earth.
