I got a positive birth! Thank you to the both of you for your content, I can’t thank you enough! Our daughter Riley Elle Robinson was born last month and we have been smitten ever since.

Being pregnant for the first time I felt lost with Corona virus when all the hospital classes where cancelled and not replaced, policies also began to get tighter and started to change. I knew I needed to learn and gain knowledge so I had some power over my birth. I signed up to HypnoBirthing,  I am very grateful I did. The content I learnt was beyond more then I would of learnt from the hospital and I got my birth wishes and delivered my baby girl naturally.

My story starts on Saturday 1st August 2020 when I started to get really bad back pain (I didn’t know back labour was a thing, now I do). I just had a beautiful day at home to distract myself, cooked some muffins, went for a small walk with my husband and sat there and watched him as he did some final touches to our nursery. It came to Saturday night, I went to bed at 10:00pm and started to get cramps and new labour and the next life adventure was about to begin.

I slept it off until 2:30am where I woke up with surges and thought ok this is happening. I didn’t want to wake my husband as I thought I’ll need him later and I went downstairs to lie on the couch and listen to rainbow relaxation, I started breathing with the surges. I got to 5:00am and my surges and back pain increased,  I decided to jump in the shower and turned it on hot.
At 5:30am I woke up my husband to let him know I was having surges and we called our midwife. I then continued to labour at home, we used the tens machine for my back pain, kept rotating heat packs, I rocked on the fit ball and had a bath with Clary Sage. All the things I was taught and wanted to do. We even got the rebozo out to help relieve the pressure off my back.

We timed my surges again and felt they where the same, I said to my husband though  I felt I wanted to push. I knew there was a change and the pushing sensation begin. We called the midwife and she advised to meet her at the hospital in 35 minutes. We arrived at the hospital just after 13:30pm on Sunday 2nd August 2020,  where our midwife checked me and advised we will be having this baby today (such good news).

Within an hour our precious daughter was born at 14:47pm (My labour was 12 hours and 45 minutes). My midwife was beautiful and supported all my birth wishes including delayed cord clamping, letting the breast crawl happen, not identifying the sex and spending a lot of bonding time in the birthing suite etc.

Given she arrived in Melbourne when stage 4 restrictions was just announced , we didn’t even think about Corona Virus or what was happening in the world around us, we felt safe, in good hands and had a lovely experience.

We are over the moon with gratitude and are very grateful for our birth experience. I feel so empowered I was able to do it naturally and do all my labouring at home (which is what I wanted given the hospital rules), creating the best start for my daughter. I honestly couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of my husband and the techniques we learnt from HypnoBirthing. Thank you to Lisa for running the course and your insight and to Michelle for further support and techniques ????
