Hey there Birth Partners!

So you’re here because your lovely, pregnant wife/partner/girlfriend sent you to this page. She’s mentioned that she wants to do something called HypnoBirthing and you have some doubts.

I totally get this! Firstly, what a weird name – HypnoBirthing! We certainly didn’t make life easy for ourselves when we chose a strange name like HypnoBirthing. I think it makes people think of losing control, doing things you don’t want to do, being laughed at, but mostly that’s it’s a load of sh!t that doesn’t work. The hypnosis we use is very, very different to stage hypnosis. I explain it in great detail during the course and we never do anything that you’re not comfortable with.

When you are experiencing hypnosis, you are sitting comfortably in a chair, listening to me talk. You can choose to accept my suggestions or not, it’s all totally up to you.
The other thing you are probably thinking of is the cash. I get that it’s a lot of money for most people, especially at a very expensive time when generally mum-to-be is not going to be working for some time. For me, an amazing birth is priceless. But there is a huge price to pay for a traumatic one. A traumatic birth often means counselling sessions, more GP visits and sometimes anti-depressants. It’s just a matter of spending the money now, or later as I see it.

Apart from having my own two babies, being a support person to someone I love is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. The knowledge you need of the maternity system is massive, the confidence you need to advocate for the labouring mum is huge and the list of techniques and skills you require is long.
How you feel and act during this birth, can make or break the experience for both yourself and your partner. Why not do absolutely everything you can to prepare for this life-changing event.

During the classes, you as Birth Partners will learn heaps of info like:

  • Massage techniques both soft and firm (acupressure)
  • Positions you can suggest for labour
  • How to setup the perfect birth environment
  • Tonnes of verbal and physical cues to help your partner relax
  • How to talk to your Care Provider in a confident, non-confrontational way
  • How much water your partner needs to drink
  • How often your partner should be going to the toilet
  • Getting labour restarted if it slows down
  • What a Birth Plan is and why you should have one
  • Plus sooooo much more

Lastly, maybe you’re worried that it’s just same weird hippy sh!t and I’m going to try and make you have a home birth or something. I am your total, average mum living in the suburbs. No dreadlocks or tie-dye to be seen! I don’t care if you birth in a hospital, birth centre or at home – as long you are are informed and confident.
My classes are relaxed and fun and there is very little double up from hospital classes. I’m giving you the missing piece of this crazy birth puzzle that you never even knew was missing!

And remember, happy wife, happy life!!

Proud Dad

I just want to say I think you’re amazing at what you do. I’m a pretty harsh critic when it comes to teachers or trainers of any sort and I was telling my wife yesterday how great I think you are. Your honesty, passion, genuineness and ability to understand questions and answers them so directly and efficiently is just the total package of what a great teacher should be. I look forward to the next session. Thank you very much for your support.

I have to admit I was skeptical about attending HypnoBirthing classes. My wife had told me its what she wanted to do and it didn’t seem like I had a choice. We were already going to four hospital classes so it seemed like overkill to me. But it was her body after all so I agreed to go.

I was actually surprised at how much I learnt. I found these classes much more informative and practical than the hospital classes. The physiology of what happens during the birth is quite interesting and I can see how being relaxed helps with the pain. I also understood what my role was when the time came and felt much more confident that I would know what to do. Likewise, it was a really good way to spend time with my wife before the baby came. We would often do the relaxation exercises at home together just after dinner.

I’m really glad we did HypnoBirthing and would recommend it to anyone.
